Inside this Book – Six years ago, Mark and Sarah were on a cruise ship touring the South Pacific when a violent tropical storm damaged the ship’s hull. Several passengers were knocked overboard and into the dark, churning waters nearly fifty feet below. Mark and Sarah were two of the passengers who plunged into the cold waters that night. They frantically grabbed pieces of debris and hung on tight—doing whatever they could to keep their head above water. The next morning, Mark washed up onto a small and uninhabited island. Sarah washed up onto a neighboring island, also uninhabited, about two miles from Mark. After the initial shock of the situation wore away, fear and anxiety overcame them. They knew that it would not be easy. They would have to work hard to build a shelter, pick fruits, locate fresh water, and fish for food. The first few days were scary and difficult, but they both managed to build makeshift shelters to protect them from the rain and sun. They found freshwater streams deeper into the islands and plenty of fruits and nuts. As the days turned into weeks, they even got good at trapping crabs and spearing fish. In the late afternoons, Mark had some time to relax after a hard day’s work. He’d climb to his favorite bluff and watch the waves crash against rocks. As the sun set and the stars lit up the sky, he’d dream of galaxies far away and pray that he’d be rescued soon.
Inside this book –The Other 8 Hours PDF Book by Robert Pagliarini – Josh rises early each morning. He starts each day with a nutritious breakfast—usually something high in protein, such as boiled eggs and yogurt, as well as a nice serving of fruit. After breakfast, Josh relaxes and listens to a couple of his favorite talk radio programs. Sometimes he reads the morning paper. He uses this time to stay up-to-date on current events and engaged in world affairs. After a morning of engaging the mind, Josh likes to get his blood pumping. He takes a deep breath of fresh air, stretches for a few minutes, and takes a leisurely stroll. If he feels like it, he might even join a local basketball game. After he exercises, he rests and gets ready to eat lunch. Again, he tries to keep it small and nutritious—typically a mixed green salad and a hot sandwich. Once in a while, he cheats and will eat a cookie. Friends are important to Josh, so he likes to spend the afternoons socializing—talking, playing games, or just watching TV with them. Josh is an avid reader and writer. He often spends his afternoons writing and poring over books. After an early dinner, Josh hits the gym for an hour or so. He follows this with a high-protein snack and a shower. He spends the last few hours before bed watching a little TV, reading, and writing. Occasionally he’ll chat with a friend or take in a little more talk radio before dozing off. Eric also gets up early. He takes a quick shower and fills his coffee mug before racing out into the cold, dark morning. He navigates the streets as if he were on autopilot—he’s been making the same forty-minute commute for over a decade.
