Inside this Book – This subconscious alienation—which mates so often encounter despite their desire to remain in love—is the result of an unsuspected poison on Cupid’s arrow. When we fall in love, a primitive part of our brain pierces us with a desire for great passion (Cupid’s dart). An orgasm feels great, and if it were the end of the story, lovers would be able to do what comes nat- urally in the bedroom and live happily ever after. The problem is that sex— especially the kind with lots of orgasms all around, leading to that feeling of “I’m definitely done!” (sexual satiety)—isn’t an isolated event. Orgasm is the peak of a much longer cycle of subsequent changes deep in the brain. These lingering effects, and the unwelcome feelings they evoke, can poison our relationship without our conscious awareness. Remarkably, such diverse symptoms as selfishness, unfulfilled needs, communication problems, infi- delity, and sexless marriages can all originate in these hidden commands. In some of us this “poison” takes effect so rapidly that we part after a single tryst. More often there is a period of relative relationship happiness, supported by a short-lived love potion. This honeymoon harmony (or lust) encourages us to bond for a while. On average it’s long enough for mates to produce and attach to a child, even if they do not, in fact, procreate.
Inside this book –Cupid’s Poisoned Arrow PDF Book by Marnia Robinson – My education about the hidden potential in relationships began with just such a crash. Some years back my sister, weary of watching the turnover in my love life, gave me a book with a title like Marrying the Man of Your Choice. I had tried all of the mainstream advice for sustaining relationships with little success, so I figured, why not? The book insisted that I needed to write a detailed description of my ideal mate. So I did. Sure enough he showed up within a year. Not only that, a couple of months before Paul and I met, he attended a party whose host had hired a psychic as a party gag. The psychic told Paul that he would meet me by a certain date, giving him my age, my profession, the element of my astro- logical sign, and several other surprisingly accurate things. We met at a business conference in New York City two days before the date the psychic named. It certainly felt like a heavenly match. Shortly after conventional sex entered the picture, however, the relationship blew apart. And every time we got back together again, it blew apart again. At the time I made no connection between the pursuit of orgasm and the recurring friction between us. I felt like a random bolt of lightening had just reduced another of my precious unions to ashes. It was excruci- ating to watch a relationship with someone with whom I had experienced such a profound, seemingly fated, connection crumble despite all efforts to save it.
